> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Speckle as it works today, including everything released in 2026.9. Treat page content as current unless the page or section says it applies only to versions published before 2026.9.
> Content scoped to versions published before 2026.9 (the object graph and root object, Proxies, Receive2, operations.receive, object.children) applies only to model versions in that earlier data format. For versions published in 2026.9, answer from the Object model pages and the SDK migration guides.
> The What's new pages summarise what changed in 2026.9 and link to the page that documents each change. Answer from the linked page rather than from the summary. Legacy (v2) connectors are retired; send questions about them to the community help forum.
> Match guidance to the customer's deployment, model data format, connector, plan and permissions. Self-hosted servers on a release before 2026.9 and compatibility-mode workflows follow the Compatibility mode page. If an unknown version or data format changes the answer, ask one focused question; do not infer the deployment version from the date alone.

# Sync models from Trimble Connect

> Connect Trimble Connect to Speckle for automatic model synchronization.

<Badge>Beta</Badge>

Connect Trimble Connect to Speckle for automatic model synchronization. Pick files from your Trimble
Connect projects, and every new version uploaded to Trimble Connect becomes a new version of a
Speckle model — no manual re-uploads.

<Note>
  The Trimble Connect integration is available on the **Enterprise** plan. To use it on another
  plan, [talk to
  sales](mailto:sales@speckle.systems?subject=Trimble%20Connect%20Integration%20request).
</Note>

## How it works

* **Browsing is personal.** You sign in to Trimble Connect with your own Trimble ID to browse
  projects, folders, and files. Your Trimble login stays in your browser — Speckle never stores it.
* **Background sync uses a service account.** Trimble Connect does not offer application-level
  (machine-to-machine) access, so each Speckle workspace connects one Trimble account as its
  **service account**. Speckle encrypts that account's credentials, refreshes them automatically,
  and uses them to download new file versions in the background.
* **Changes are detected by polling.** Trimble Connect has no webhooks, so Speckle checks your
  synced files for new versions every 5 minutes.

## Prerequisites

* A Speckle workspace on the **Enterprise** plan, and **workspace admin** rights to set up the service
  account (any workspace member can browse and create syncs afterwards)
* A Trimble Connect account with access to the projects you want to sync
* A Trimble account to act as the **service account** — use a dedicated account (for example
  `speckle-sync@yourcompany.com`) rather than a personal one, so background sync does not break when
  someone leaves the team
* The service account must be **invited to every Trimble Connect project** you plan to sync (any
  role that can view and download files)

## Connect the service account

Workspace admin only. Do this once per workspace.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Trimble Connect">
    Open any project in your workspace. In the project sidebar, go to **Integrations** → **Trimble
    Connect**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect the service account">
    In the header, select **Connect service account**. Trimble's sign-in page opens. Sign in with
    the **service account** (not your personal account) and approve access.

    You return to Speckle. The header shows **Background sync:** with the service account email and
    a green indicator.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Speckle encrypts the service account's credentials before storing them. They are used only for
  server-side file downloads and background synchronization, and are refreshed automatically so they
  never expire from inactivity.
</Note>

<Note>
  Trimble may skip the login screen if you are already signed in to Trimble in that browser. When
  connecting the service account, Speckle always forces the sign-in screen so you can pick the right
  account.
</Note>

## Connect and sync files

Any workspace member can do this after the service account is connected.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in to browse">
    Go to **Integrations** → **Trimble Connect** and select **Connect to Trimble**. Sign in with
    your own Trimble ID.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a project and files">
    Choose a **Trimble Connect project** from the selector in the header. Projects from all Trimble
    Connect regions are listed; the region appears next to each project name. Browse the folder tree
    and select the files you want to sync. Use search and the source filter to narrow the list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure Revit options if needed">
    For Revit files, optionally set a **view name** and **reference point** in the selected-files
    panel. See [Revit options](#revit-options).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the sync">
    Select **Create sync**. Each synced file gets its own Speckle model, named after the file and
    its folder path. The first version imports immediately. After that, every new version uploaded
    to Trimble Connect is picked up automatically.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Keep models in sync

* Speckle polls your synced folders **every 5 minutes**. A new file version in Trimble Connect
  typically appears as a new Speckle version within 5 minutes plus conversion time.
* The **Syncs** panel on the Trimble Connect page shows every sync in the project, its latest
  status, and links to the Speckle model.
* You can **pause** and **resume** a sync from the Syncs panel. Paused syncs keep their existing
  versions; they stop watching for changes.
* If a synced file is moved or deleted in Trimble Connect, Speckle pauses the sync after a few
  failed checks and emails the sync's creator.

## Revit options

### View name

By default, all elements of a Revit model are imported. To import only the elements visible in a
specific 3D view, enter the view's exact name (case-sensitive) when creating the sync.

### Reference point

Choose which Revit coordinate origin the model is aligned to: **Internal Origin** (default),
**Project Base Point**, **Survey Point**, or **Shared Coordinates**. Use the same setting across
models that need to align in Speckle.

## Supported file formats

Cloud sync accepts the same file formats as file uploads. See [Supported file
formats](/connectors/direct-uploads/introduction#supported-file-formats).

Trimble Connect syncs also accept formats that uploads do not. Trimble Connect converts every 3D
model it stores into TrimBIM, its own model format, and for these files Speckle syncs that TrimBIM
instead of the original:

| Format | Extensions |
| - | - |
| AutoCAD DXF | .dxf |
| IFC ZIP | .ifczip |
| IGES | .igs, .iges |
| Trimble TTM, TFLX | .ttm, .tflx |
| SketchUp Viewer SVD/SVL | .svd, .svl |
| Trimble VCL | .vcl |
| Trimble Connect ZIP | .tczip |

The sync keeps the file's own name, and the version shows the **TrimBIM** source badge. Formats
Speckle converts directly, such as Revit, IFC and Navisworks, are unaffected. LandXML files are not
included. TrimBIM (`.trb`) files sync as well; see
[TrimBIM (TRB)](/connectors/direct-uploads/introduction#trimbim-trb).

<Note>
  For a file synced through TrimBIM, Speckle waits for Trimble Connect to finish converting the new
  version, up to 10 minutes, before it converts the model. Expect those versions a little later than
  others.
</Note>

<Note>
  A workspace in compatibility mode accepts fewer formats for cloud sync. See [Compatibility
  mode](/it-admin/compatibility-mode).

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Is the connection read-only?">
    Yes. Speckle only reads and downloads files from Trimble Connect. It never writes to, modifies,
    or deletes anything in your Trimble Connect projects.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How quickly does a new version show up in Speckle?">
    Speckle checks for changes every 5 minutes, so expect the new version within 5 minutes plus the
    time it takes to convert the file. Speckle syncs the file version current at each check;
    versions superseded between checks, or whose sync fails, are not synced later. See [Sync
    guarantees](/it-admin/integrations/introduction#sync-guarantees).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why do I need a service account? ACC does not ask for one.">
    Autodesk lets an application access files with its own credentials. Trimble Connect currently
    only supports user-level access, so background downloads run as a real Trimble account. Speckle
    stores that account's credentials encrypted and rotates them automatically. Trimble has
    application-level access on its roadmap; once available, the service account step will go away.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Who can connect or disconnect the service account?">
    Workspace admins only. Browsing and creating syncs is open to all workspace members.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I have to add the service account to every Trimble Connect project?">
    Yes. Background downloads run as the service account, so it needs access to each project you
    sync. Files in projects it cannot access fail to download.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens if I disconnect the service account?">
    Existing Speckle versions are unaffected, but background sync stops: syncs pause on their next
    check and their creators are emailed. Reconnecting a service account resumes them automatically.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My sync got paused unexpectedly. Why?">
    Two common causes: the file was moved, renamed, or deleted in Trimble Connect (Speckle pauses
    after several failed checks), or the service account's access was revoked or its login expired.
    Check the file in Trimble Connect, then reconnect the service account if needed and resume the
    sync.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My DXF or IGES sync failed, but the file opens in Trimble Connect.">
    These formats sync through the TrimBIM that Trimble Connect generates. If the sync's error says
    Trimble Connect could not generate a TrimBIM, Trimble Connect did not process that file version:
    check that it opens in the Trimble Connect 3D viewer and upload it again. If the error says the
    TrimBIM was not ready within 10 minutes, Trimble Connect was still processing a large file: the
    next file version syncs normally, or re-upload the file to trigger a new version.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I don't see my Trimble Connect project in the list.">
    Make sure the Trimble account you signed in with is a member of that project. Projects from
    every Trimble Connect region are listed, so region is not the issue.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I sync the same file into several Speckle projects?">
    Yes — create a sync for the file in each Speckle project. Each is tracked independently.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does deleting a Speckle model stop the sync?">
    Yes. Deleting the model removes its sync. The file in Trimble Connect is untouched.
  </Accordion>
