> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Speckle as it works today, including everything released in 2026.9. Treat page content as current unless the page or section says it applies only to versions published before 2026.9.
> Content scoped to versions published before 2026.9 (the object graph and root object, Proxies, Receive2, operations.receive, object.children) applies only to model versions in that earlier data format. For versions published in 2026.9, answer from the Object model pages and the SDK migration guides.
> The What's new pages summarise what changed in 2026.9 and link to the page that documents each change. Answer from the linked page rather than from the summary. Legacy (v2) connectors are retired; send questions about them to the community help forum.
> Match guidance to the customer's deployment, model data format, connector, plan and permissions. Self-hosted servers on a release before 2026.9 and compatibility-mode workflows follow the Compatibility mode page. If an unknown version or data format changes the answer, ask one focused question; do not infer the deployment version from the date alone.

# Approve Speckle for SharePoint

> Microsoft admin steps to approve Speckle in Microsoft Entra, so members of your organization can sync SharePoint files to Speckle.

Beta

Before anyone in your organization can sign in to SharePoint from Speckle, a Microsoft admin approves
Speckle's app once for the whole organization. This page says what you approve, who can approve it,
and how to remove it. Approving needs no Speckle account.

> [!NOTE]
>
> SharePoint sync is in beta. Speckle turns it on for each workspace that takes part, and it runs on
> Speckle's hosted service only.

## What Speckle can read

* **Every SharePoint site, read-only.** The approval lets Speckle's app read every SharePoint site
  in your organization. Speckle downloads only the files that members pick for a sync. That limit
  is how Speckle behaves, not a limit Microsoft enforces. You cannot narrow the approval to chosen
  sites today.
* **Members browse as themselves.** To pick files, each member signs in with their own Microsoft
  365 work account. They see only the sites and files they can open in SharePoint.
* **Background checks run as Speckle's app.** Every 5 minutes, Speckle reads each synced file to
  check for a new published version, and downloads it when one exists.
* **Nothing is written.** Speckle never changes, uploads, or deletes anything in SharePoint.

Speckle asks for these Microsoft Graph permissions:

| Permission | Type | What Speckle uses it for |
| - | - | - |
| `Sites.Read.All` | Application | Checks synced files for changes and downloads new versions |
| `Sites.Read.All` | Delegated | Lists the sites, libraries, and files a signed-in member can open |
| `User.Read` | Delegated | Shows the signed-in member's name |
| `openid`, `profile`, `offline_access` | Delegated | Signs the member in and keeps them signed in |

## Who can approve

Approval needs a **Privileged Role Administrator** or a **Global Administrator** in Microsoft Entra. The approval
includes an application permission for Microsoft Graph, so an **Application Administrator** or a
**Cloud Application Administrator** cannot complete it.

## Approve Speckle

**1. Open the approval link**

Sign in to Microsoft as an admin who can approve. Then open [Approve Speckle for your
organization](https://login.microsoftonline.com/organizations/v2.0/adminconsent?client_id=d4c3a7d4-8421-4973-9055-98ab0da083cc\&scope=https%3A%2F%2Fgraph.microsoft.com%2F.default\&redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fapp.speckle.systems%2Fapi%2Fv1%2Fsharepoint%2Fauth%2Fapproval\&state=docs).
Microsoft's approval screen opens.

**2. Check that the screen is Speckle's**

Check that the application ID on the screen matches Speckle's application ID, shown below these
steps. Speckle's publisher is verified, so the app also carries Microsoft's verified publisher
badge.

**3. Review the permissions**

The screen lists the permissions in the table above. **Read items in all site collections**
(`Sites.Read.All`) appears twice. One entry is for members who sign in, and the other is for
Speckle's app.

**4. Accept**

Select **Accept**. You land on a page that confirms the approval.

Speckle's application ID:

```text theme={null}
```

The approval link above, to copy into another browser:

```
## Approved
Speckle is approved for your organization. Members can now sign in with their Microsoft account on
a Speckle project and sync files from SharePoint. Point them to [Sync models from
SharePoint](/connectors/cloud-integrations/sharepoint).
You need no Speckle account, and there is nothing else to set up.
## Approval not completed
Speckle was not approved, and nothing changed in your organization. This happens when you select
**Cancel**, or when your account cannot approve apps for the organization. Check [who can
approve](#who-can-approve), then open the approval link again.
## Remove Speckle's access
**1. Find Speckle in Entra**
In the [Microsoft Entra admin center](https://entra.microsoft.com/), go to **Enterprise
applications** and search for Speckle's application ID. Speckle's app appears in the results.
**2. Delete the app**
Open the app, go to **Properties**, and select **Delete**. The app no longer appears under
**Enterprise applications**.
Within about 15 minutes, Speckle pauses every SharePoint sync from your organization. Each sync's
creator gets one email. Models and versions already in Speckle stay there.
To restore access, approve Speckle again. Each sync's creator then resumes their syncs.
## FAQ
> **Can we limit Speckle to some SharePoint sites?**
>
> Not today. The approval covers every site in your organization. Speckle reads only the files
> members pick for a sync, but Microsoft does not enforce that limit.
> **Do members need an admin role to sync files?**
>
> No. After you approve Speckle, any member with access to a file in SharePoint can sync it from a
> Speckle project where they can create syncs.
> **A member says Speckle is not approved yet. What do I check?**
>
> Search **Enterprise applications** in the Microsoft Entra admin center for Speckle's application
> ID. If the app does not appear, approve Speckle again. If it does, ask the member to select
> **Sign out** on the SharePoint page and connect again.
> **What happens to synced models if we remove Speckle?**
>
> Syncs pause and stop creating versions. Models and versions already in Speckle stay, under
> Speckle's project roles, until a project owner removes them.
For how every Speckle cloud integration handles access, see [Cloud Integrations: Access and
Governance](/it-admin/integrations/introduction).
