# Migrate from legacy connectors to current (V3) connectors

<Danger>Legacy connectors will be deprecated on January 1, 2026:</Danger>

Do this now:

* [Assess your workflow](#assess-your-workflow) to see if you can migrate
* [Download legacy installers](https://releases.speckle.systems/legacy-connectors) you still need (available until Jan 1, 2026)

## What the deprecation means

After January 1, 2026:

* Legacy connector installers and Speckle Manager will be removed from [https://releases.speckle.systems/legacy-connectors](https://releases.speckle.systems/legacy-connectors)
* Already installed legacy connectors will continue to work locally
* No active forum support will be provided
* Current connectors will no longer maintain backwards compatibility with legacy models

## Assess your workflow

Before migrating, determine if your workflow is supported in V3 connectors.

These workflows have full support in V3 connectors:

Native BIM element workflows:
These workflows load models as native BIM elements and currently require legacy connectors:

Platform limitations:

* Mac versions of Rhino and ArchiCAD require legacy connectors

What to do:

1. Download necessary installers before January 1, 2026 and save them securely
2. Complete existing projects on your current timeline
3. Avoid starting new projects with legacy connectors
4. Contact your workspace administrator if you need custom migration assistance (paid workspaces only)

## Migration steps

    Uninstall old Speckle plugin files from your authoring tool or remove them via your plugin manager.

    Visit the [V3 connectors page](/connectors/overview) for downloads and installation instructions.

  <Step title="Create workspace projects">
    V3 connectors require workspace-based projects. - Navigate to your workspace in the Speckle web
    interface - Create a new project for each workflow you want to upgrade
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send your data">
    Because legacy and V3 connectors use different data models, you need to resend your models: - Open
    your model in your authoring tool (for example, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp) - Use the V3 connector to
    send your model to the newly created project
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test and verify">
    * Open the new project in the Speckle web interface to verify your data
    * Update any scripts or automation tools to work with the new workspace project structure
    * Test receiving workflows in destination applications to ensure compatibility

## Why upgrade to V3

V3 connectors offer significant improvements:

* **Faster and more reliable** performance
* **Expanded property support** and consistent schemas across connectors
* **Workspace-based projects** that enable true team collaboration
* **Direct integration with Speckle Intelligence** to turn design data into actionable project insights

    They match, but not completely.

    Current (v3) connectors are available for: Revit, Rhino, Archicad, AutoCAD, Navisworks, SketchUp, Blender, Civil 3D, Grasshopper, ETABS, Tekla, and Power BI. These connectors are available in the legacy version as well, but we recommend you to use the current (v3) version.

    These connectors will be available only in the legacy version: Dynamo, Unity, Unreal, Excel, SAP2000, SAFE, CSiBridge, Bentley (MicroStation, OpenRoads, OpenRail, OpenBuilding), Advance Steel, TopSolid and QGIS.

  <Accordion title="How do I update the current (v3) connectors without Speckle Manager?">
    If a new version of current (v3) connectors is available, you'll see a little Update button when
    you open it up in your host application. You can always go back to app.speckle.systems, to check
    for the latest version.

  <Accordion title="What's happening to Speckle Manager?">
    Speckle Manager is only used to install legacy connectors. If you must continue using legacy
    connectors, the Manager will be available here!

  <Accordion title="How do I uninstall the current (v3) connectors?">
    Just head to your computer's standard programs/applications list and uninstall like any other app.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I remove an account or change the default one without Speckle Manager?">
    Accounts can be removed or changed even without Speckle Manager. Whichever account you had selected last time (across devices) is your default for the next session.

    1. Click your profile picture at the top open up your account manager.

    2. Click to Switch your active account. Your last used account will be the default account.

    3. You can add a new account, or click on the Trash icon on any current account to remove it.

  <Accordion title="Do I have to upgrade immediately?">
    No, but v2 connectors are no longer supported or receiving updates. Switching to current (v3) connectors ensures better performance and future-proofed workflows.

  <Accordion title="Will my old v2 data disappear?">
    No. v2 streams remain in read-only mode in your personal area. You can still view or download
    them.

  <Accordion title="Can I roll back to v2?">
    No; v2 and v3 connectors are built on different data models and cannot reliably be used interchangeably.
