Scripts and reports that read the data format used before 2026.9 can stop working when ACC sync and file uploads start writing the 2026.9 format. Compatibility mode keeps a workspace’s syncs and uploads in the earlier format while you update the tools that read that data.
Compatibility mode ends for every workspace on 1 November 2026, whenever it was turned on. From that date, ACC sync and file uploads write the 2026.9 format. Update dependent scripts and reports before then.
For the summary for workspace members, see Speckle’s new data model. ACC hub setup does not change: see Enable Autodesk Forma Data Management integration.

What compatibility mode covers

Compatibility mode applies to the whole workspace, not to single projects or files. It covers every model that reaches Speckle without a desktop connector:
  • ACC sync, and the other cloud syncs (ProjectWise and Trimble Connect).
  • File uploads: drag-and-drop in the web app, and uploads through the API.
It does not cover desktop connectors or object sends completed through version.create or commitCreate. A connector publishes and loads in its own data format, whatever the workspace mode. The server still converts those code-based object sends into bundles. Existing models stay readable.

When to request it

Compatibility mode is a short bridge while you update downstream tools. It is not a way to stay on the earlier format. Request it when all of the following are true:
  • The workspace uses ACC sync or file uploads.
  • A script, custom report, or other tool downstream of Speckle depends on the earlier data format.
  • You cannot update that tool before the workspace starts writing the 2026.9 format.
Do not request it only because connectors are still on an older release. Connector updates have their own window. See Upgrade window for 2026.9.

What differs in compatibility mode

Compatibility mode uses the conversion path from before 2026.9, so it accepts a different set of files:
  • File uploads accept STL, 3MF, 3DS, AMF, DXF, X, E57, IGS/IGES, FBX, PLY, and SLDPRT files. The default path does not accept these formats.
  • MicroStation (.dgn), Vectorworks (.vwx), Solibri (.smc), and Tekla Structures files cannot be uploaded or synced.
  • Cloud syncs accept Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD (.dwg), and IFC files only.
  • Revit uploads do not offer the Shared Coordinates reference point. ACC still displays the option for synced Revit files, but the older conversion path cannot process it and the sync fails. Choose Internal Origin, Project Base Point, or Survey Point instead.
For the full format list, see Supported file formats.

As a workspace admin

Check whether any project uses ACC sync or file uploads, and whether a script, custom report, or other tool reads that data in the earlier format. If one does, ask Speckle to switch the workspace into compatibility mode. It is not self-serve. Contact Speckle in-app, through speckle.community/help, or via your Customer Success Advisor. After Speckle confirms the switch, syncs and uploads keep writing the earlier format until you ask to leave compatibility mode, and no later than 1 November 2026.

As an IT administrator

Compatibility mode does not change ACC hub enablement, firewall allowlists, or connector installers. Keep using the IT Setup Guide for those tasks. Identify the tools that read data from ACC sync and file uploads, and update them before 1 November 2026.

After 1 November 2026

Speckle switches compatibility mode off for every workspace on this date and no longer offers it. New syncs and uploads then use the default path and the 2026.9 format. The default path does not accept the upload formats that only compatibility mode accepts. Downstream tools that still expect the earlier format can break until they are updated. Existing models stay readable. Compatibility mode covers cloud syncs and file uploads only; it never kept desktop connectors working. The connector upgrade window closes on the same date, and Speckle does not guarantee connectors from 2026.8 or earlier after it. See Upgrade window for 2026.9.

Self-hosted servers

A self-hosted server running a release before 2026.9 keeps working as it does today. Compatibility mode and the 1 November 2026 date do not apply to it. If your connector and server versions work together, pin both, and keep downstream users on that combination. See Self-hosted servers.

FAQ

No. It applies to the whole workspace: every cloud sync and file upload in every project uses the earlier format until compatibility mode ends.
No. Desktop connectors publish and load in their own data format. Updating a connector, not compatibility mode, decides which format its publishes use.
No. Vectorworks, Solibri, MicroStation, and Tekla Structures files need the default upload path. Leave compatibility mode, or wait until it ends, to upload them.
